Like most processed food, hummus also contains sugar when purchased from the supermarket. It's so easy to make your own anyway! I've always got chickpeas in the house so I can make it whenever I want. Chickpeas are a great source of iron, calcium and magnesium!
Makes one medium bowl.
You will need:
x1 400g tin of chickpeas
5 tablespoons of olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon of tahini
2 garlic cloves, peeled
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
Salt and Pepper
Combine all the ingredients into a food processor with a tablespoon of water and blend until really smooth.
It will keep for about a week in an airtight container.
Try adding roasted tomatoes or roasted red peppers for different flavours!
